The 8,000 SF Walner House is sited at the center of the junction between a 65 foot steep ravine and Lake Michigan. The owners had three mandates: it had to be one story, take full advantage of the spectacular site, and provide adequate space for a private art collection containing museum quality paintings and sculptures. The plan’s irregular Z shape is a response to the unusual site and allows the house to front in three directions. The result is one of the most unusual new residences in the entire area. Arquitectonica also custom designed several of the furniture pieces throughout the house.
