Eneida Hartner Elementary School

Miami, Florida

Project Information

This new 885-student elementary school situated on a 5.3 acre campus is the first school built according to a prototype concept designed by Arquitectonica. The campus consists of five cool-white buildings arrayed along either side of the property. Rectangular and modest, their shapes resemble children’s building blocks. Covered walkways, one elevated, traverse a wide-open courtyard/playground and connect the two sets of buildings. The campus is accented with bright colors and lively shapes, and walkway roofs are shaped like waves and geometric patterns are carved into the exterior walls. The unaffected lines and open-air corridors promote a refreshing humane environment, conducive to learning.

The program includes classrooms, a media center with audio-visual room, communications room as well as an art building composed of art and music labs. A 250-seat auditorium/cafeteria is also utilized for theatrical and musical productions.
