Located on the San Antonio River Walk, this mixed-use project for the City of San Antonio has residential, retail and a convention center hotel with 1,004 guest rooms, including 50 suites. The structure is organized in a split tower plan built on a 4-level podium containing a 32,000 SF (2,973 SM) grand ballroom, a 20,000 SF (1,860 SM) junior ballroom and 26 meeting rooms. Eight levels of residential space with 147 units top out the hotel with condos ranging from 749 SF to 4,680 SF (70 SM to 435 SM).
At 525 feet (49 meters) high, this Grand Hyatt hotel is the second tallest structure in San Antonio. A new entry plaza links the hotel lobby and lounge to the neighboring theater and convention center. On the second basement level, a restaurant and bar connect directly to the San Antonio River Walk. Additionally, five levels of underground parking provide 1,000 parking spaces.
Much thought was given to the interaction between the building’s base and how it would meet the famous San Antonio River Walk. The podium is a series of terraces that descend as they get closer to the river, with restaurants and bars overlooking the busy pedestrian path. At its lowest level, a portion of the river actually enters the building’s lobby. The overall design of the building is meant to reflect San Antonio and the region. The restaurant within the hotel opens up to the River Walk with outdoor dining.
