The Westin New York at Times Square
Arquitectonica was commissioned for The Westin New York at Times Square through a design competition to create an 850-room hotel. The winning design. features a striking design that merges two slender towers into one cohesive architectural language.
A 10-story midsection, housing the hotel suites, mediates between the retail podium and the tower. Here, a checkerboard of glass windows punctures a large-scale abstract design that appears to be a multi-dimensional gigantic origami. The firm successfully developed a theme for the hotel interior with the exterior, beginning with the beam of light that rises up through the hotel’s seven-story interior atrium. Colors and shapes from the exterior were translated to a smaller scale and reintroduced on the interior in public spaces and guest rooms.
