American Bank Center Arena and Convention Center
Arquitectonica’s goal for this project was the design of a new 9,500-seat multi-purpose arena, which had been renovated and expanded. It also involved the preparation of a master plan to include hotels and retail for the continued development of this cultural campus located in the downtown waterfront district.
Home to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays minor league hockey team and the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islanders men’s and women’s basketball teams,the new arena contains 8,000 fixed and 1,500 moveable seats from which to watch NCAA basketball, ice hockey and a variety of other sporting, musical and entertainment events. The convention center expansion includes ballrooms, exhibit halls, pre-function areas, kitchens, storage, support space and a new grand entry lobby.
