Located one block from the beach, the six-story William Morris Agency building includes 30,000 SF of offices, 15,000 SF of retail space and covered parking. Arquitectonica designed the building which houses the offices of the William Morris Talent and Literary Agency and Latin America Television Network. A square grid is used as a modular pattern that by subtraction creates a building profile. The facade is an extrusion of these subtractive moves that result in terraces off the offices. The building skyline is no longer relegated to the rooftop. The sides are also part of the profile and identity of this mid-block building. The square module camouflage the inevitable garage making it part of the composition. The three tones of mint green are intended for identifying the volumes and visually increasing the distance between them. Thus, the repetitive square module in elevations and plan, coupled with layering of the façade is accentuated by subtle differences in aquatic color tones.
The design was required to fit within a locally designated historic district, harmonizing with the surrounding architecture, yet not being imitative. Introduction of terraces of many of the offices, creating an amenity not found in many office buildings in the city are ideal for viewing the nearby Atlantic Ocean and catching prevailing sea breezes. The unique design features mid-level terraces and a rooftop terrace, from which to view the nearby Atlantic Ocean and catch prevailing sea breezes. Arquitectonica also created the interior design of the building’s lobby.
