“The Discovery Science Center is a learning facility designed to inspire children and spark their inherent curiosity in the world around them. Through the use of over 120 interactive science, math and technology exhibits and programs, the Science Center has been instrumental in helping Orange County teachers educate students and bringing families together to learn and have fun at the same time.
The Center’s most unique architectural feature is The Cube, a 10-story, 108-foot high giant cube perched atop the main exhibition hall. This highly visible structure houses an array of 560 solar panels on its southwestern face, which supplies 10%-15% of the building’s electrical needs and helps the center save more than $20,000 annually. Any excess electricity generated by the system flows directly back into the region’s local electric power grid for neighboring homes and businesses to use.
