Mount Parker Residences
The Project involves the design and construction of a state-of-the-art, luxury residential development, including support and clubhouse facilities on a 2,540sqm site at No.1, Sai Wan Terrace, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong. The site is hilly, irregular in shape and is located near City Plaza, between Tai Koo and Sai Wan Ho MTR stations. Arquitectonica designed the Mount Parker Residences as counterpoint to a densely developed neighborhood in the Quarry Bay district of eastern Hong Kong Island. The folding, curvilinear shape of the 21-story structure was generated in part by the unusual site: a steeply inclined outcropping, thick with vegetation and surrounded by multilane roadways. “The form is organic rather than geometric,” said Fort-Brescia, who chose to play off the poetically rich traditions of Chinese landscape painting. The building is a cloudlike object, perched on slender columns as to hover atop the ancient rock formations of Mount Parker.
Glass panels alternate with metallic sheathing. Balconies bulge to create undulating surface rhythms, further accentuating a sense of the organic in contrast to the urban clamor of Quarry Bay and the busy, looping byways of King’s Road and Kornhill Road that surround the site like concrete rivers. The boomerang-shaped plan was choreographed to give every apartment cross-ventilation and maximum view lines over Eastern Bay and beyond to Mainland China.
