Whirlpool Global Headquarters
The new headquarters for the Whirlpool Corporation is situated at the company’s 1911 birthplace, Benton Harbor, Michigan. This 3-story project opened in time to memorialize the 100-year anniversary of the company and reflect a century of achievements and innovations.
The new facility houses 1,200 employees in the harbor town’s Downtown District. The site context ranges from urban infill to suburban campus to waterfront parkland. The shape of the buildings’ staggering, modular, volumetric components reflects sensitivity to the scale of this low-rise downtown historic district as well as the need for a wide variety of flexible internal spaces ranging from highly collaborative to very individualized “heads down” areas. Materials were chosen to relate to the brick Main Street corridor on the north, while, on the south, the glass and steel represent the innovative spirit of the company and take advantage of day-lighting and views. The project recently achieved LEED PLATINUM certification.
