Xian Joy City
Xian Joy City is a 109,000 m2 retail redevelopment that transformed an aging open-air shopping center into a vibrant, enclosed retail destination in the heart of Xian. Located beside the historic Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the project includes four levels above grade and two below, bringing the center in line with contemporary Joy City standards while creating a more connected and comfortable environment for visitors.
The renovation focused on converting the open-air layout into an indoor shopping experience, improving circulation and orientation, upgrading entrances and arrival areas, and introducing a new central gathering space to anchor the interior. Retail units were resized to meet modern standards, with a refreshed tenant mix that emphasizes experiential and lifestyle-driven concepts to attract a wider audience.
A completely new façade, wrapped in light and color, gives the building a renewed presence within the city. At ground level and on the rooftop, new public spaces provide areas for relaxation and social interaction, tying the project more closely to the daily rhythm of the surrounding neighborhood and making Joy City Xi’an a lively urban destination for both residents and visitors.
